North Carolina university shooting is revealed as Wuhan-educated physics PhD student Tailei Qi

A Wuhan-educated physics PhD student named Tailei Qi has been identified as a person of interest in the North Carolina university massacre, and police are searching for a "armed and dangerous" suspect on campus with a gun on the VERY FIRST DAY that students returned to school.

Wuhan University was Tailei Qi's former place of education. She has been named as a person of interest in connection with the alleged shooting.

An alert was issued by the authorities due to the presence of a "armed and dangerous person" in the area surrounding the school.

The police believe that the suspect is still at large and have released a photo of a person of interest in their investigation.

After an active shooter alert was issued around the University of North Carolina campus, the authorities have released an image of a graduate student at the university who they have identified as a "person of interest."

UNC police have released a picture of a man named Tailei Qi, who claims to have graduated from Wuhan University in 2015, as someone they are interested in speaking to in connection with the crime.

The website for the University of North Carolina reveals that an ID photo for Qi, a student in the Department of Applied Physical Sciences, has a striking resemblance to the image of the suspect.

Since the year 2022, the college student majoring in physics has been employed as a research assistant at the institution.

He also asserts that he graduated from Louisiana State University in 2021 with a master's degree in material science from when he enrolled there in the past.

At one o'clock in the afternoon, the local authorities in Chapel Hill issued a warning about a "armed and dangerous person" who was thought to be in the area of the Caudill Labs at the university.

This mugshot was released by the police as a "person of interest" in connection with the ongoing investigation into a "armed and dangerous person."

UNC police have reportedly identified Tailei Qi, a Wuhan University graduate who received their degree in 2015, as a person they would like to speak to in relation with the event.

'This photo represents a person of interest in today's armed and dangerous person incident,' the police stated in a statement. In the event that you come across this individual, keep your distance, prioritize your safety, and dial 911.

In the previous month, the student of applied physical sciences issued a request on social media asking for assistance in meeting new acquaintances.

He stated that he was interested in acquiring some fresh companionship. My research interests include nanoparticle synthesis, optical trapping, self-assembly, spectral analysis, and machine learning (ML). I am currently in the second year of my PhD program.

"A little bit stupid in daily trifles, but very enthusiastic talking about research," said the person.

In the previous month, Qi posted on LinkedIn a paper that he had written on optical binding. The document was published under his name as well as the names of two other people, one of whom was his advisor.

Before beginning his studies at the University of North Carolina and the Louisiana State University, Qi worked as a research assistant at the Southern University of Science and Technology in Guangdong, China, for over two years, and he also worked as a researcher at the Suzhou Advanced material Research Institute.

In addition to receiving a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Wuhan University, he also earned a minor in Business Administration and Management from same institution.

The video footage taken at the site shows faculty members, students, and other building occupants being brought out of the facility while dozens of law enforcement officers surrounded the school.

According to the website for the University of North Carolina, the picture of the suspect is identical to an identification photo for Qi, who is a student in the department of applied physical sciences.

Last month, the student in applied physical sciences placed a request on social media asking for assistance in establishing new acquaintances.

Students exiting the chemical labs looked to have their arms lifted over their heads as they were being led out by the cops.

Staff members and students were seen in the video being brought out of the building while still wearing their lab coats. Dozens of law enforcement officers could be seen surrounding the property.

In a statement, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper indicated that he was in discussion with law enforcement about the incident that occurred in the state.

According to the reports, law enforcement took a man into custody, questioned him while he was restrained, and then released him after determining that he posed no danger. It is not known whether or not he is the same man that the police are currently looking for.

The University of North Carolina has announced that the school is "continuing to be on lockdown as the active assailant situation continues."

At one o'clock in the afternoon, the alarm was broadcast, and police advised all staff members, faculty members, and students to seek refuge inside until further notice.

The campus is currently being swarmed by armed law enforcement officers, and there is a significant presence of emergency services personnel. At this time, there are at least four different agencies responding to the incident.

Noel Brewer, a lecturer, reported that his office was "on lockdown" because there was "an active shooter somewhere nearby."

He stated that everyone in his office, including his staff and coworkers, was under lockdown. There is a shooter in the area someplace. Perhaps close to the sciences of the genome. I was told that one of the students was shot.

Jake Sirlin, a student working on his doctorate, wrote a message on X, which was formerly known as Twitter, stating that there was a "active shooter."

He stated that there is a current active shooter at the University of North Carolina in the chemistry building. There has been a shooting of at least one individual. I am still hiding from everyone.

Both the special meeting of the Board of Trustees at UNC and the meeting of the Faculty Executive Committee scheduled for Monday afternoon have been canceled.

It is not apparent whether or not a suspect has been captured, despite the fact that witnesses claim to have heard "multiple shots."

"I would ask that you please reach out to any friends or family members that you may have on campus, particularly those who work in the department. I have never been so terrified in all my life.

According to a spokeswoman for the UNC Hospitals, the facility has not seen any patients connected to the incident as of yet.

At two o'clock in the afternoon, the University reported that the situation on campus was still active and urged individuals who were not currently present to stay away.

All of the schools in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro district are currently operating in secure mode, which means that all of the building doors are closed and locked.

The school system has announced that primary schools will keep pupils on campus until there is word from UNC that it is safe to do so.

They issued a statement in which they said: 'As a safety precaution, schools have been advised not to release pupils to their families at this time.'

Following the shooting that occurred earlier today, Governor Roy Cooper issued a statement in which he said, "My office is in communication with law enforcement and officials at UNC-Chapel Hill who are taking precautions to protect campus safety."

"This is a tragic way to start a new semester, and the state will provide any assistance necessary to support the community at the University of North Carolina."

"I have spoken with Orange County Sheriff Blackwood and Department of Public Safety Secretary Buffaloe and pledge all state resourced needed to capture the shooter and protect the UNC campus," Chapel Hill's interim chancellor said in a statement.
